Jay-Z is one of the most notable rapper-moguls whose entrepreneurship vision and wealth has grown exponentially over the decades. His journey to success is an impressive one given its start. From reformed drug dealer to legendary musician, he made his first major business move in 1995, when he founded Roc-A-Fella Records. Since then, his insatiable pursuit of new business opportunities has led him to become the most successful black businessman in America. After starting record labels and a clothing company, creating a successful sports management company with Roc Nation Sports, and successfully breaking into the competitive world of streaming with Tidal, Jay-Z is the first hip-hop artist to accumulate a net worth of over $1 billion.




ALIKO DANGOTE

Dangote has always had an interest in business and entrepreneurship. As a young boy his grandfather would trade rice and oats in Kano, this inspired him to buy sweets, and give them to others to sell whilst keeping the profits. He now owns 85% of publicly traded Dangote Cement through a holding company. His company produces 45.6 million metric tons annually and has operations in 10 countries across Africa. He also owns stakes in publicly traded salt and sugar manufacturing companies. In addition to this, he owns an oil refinery that has been under construction since 2016 and is expected to be one of the world’s largest oil refineries once complete.




ADEBAYO OGUNLESI

Aliko Dangote is Africa’s richest person. He is the founder and chairman of Dangote Cement which is one of Africa’s largest cement producers. Adebayo Ogunlesi, is a Nigerian-born investment banker and money manager who made international headlines when he purchased London’s Gatwick Airport from the British Airports Authority in 2009 in a deal worth £1.51 billion. He is also the chairman and managing partner of Global Infrastructure Partners, a New York-based independent private equity firm focused primarily on infrastructural investments. After receiving a B.A. with first-class honors in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University, he served as a law clerk in the United States Supreme Court and later became the Head of the Global Energy Group. In 2006 he started the private equity firm, Global Infrastructure Partners GIP for which he currently serves as Chairman and Managing Partner.




P-DIDDY

Sean Combs, also known as P Diddy or Diddy, is an artist and entrepreneur whose business has earned him a net worth of $820 million. He credits his success to the lessons he learned as a child. He began delivering newspapers at the age of 12 where most of his customers were elderly. He says caring made him different and made him better than the last paperboy. His hard work certainly paid off as today he is the wealthiest hip-hop artist and owns a stake in the TV network Revolt. He is also the founder of the successful clothing line Sean John and has a lucrative deal with Ciroc and a partnership with DeLeon tequila. He is also the co-owner of the water brand AQUAhydrate. More recently he opened the Capital Preparatory Harlem Charter School, where he plans to provide young people with early lessons on leadership and success.
